Parents lost their house to foreclosure and we were basically homeless for most of my 11th grade year (lived with a family friend who was well off until they found a place that was 50% price reduced). Dad's hours at work were cut. Christmas in 2008 sucked. I watched CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox Business, and other financial news like a junkie trying to connect dots in total awe at the happenings unfolding every fucking day.

The whole thing scarred me, made me rethink my ambitions (I wanted to change the world and do good like every other idiot millenial... thought financiers were evil), and changed the trajectory of my life. Made me into the capitalist that I am today. I never wanted to be on the receiving end again. Fuck that.

Read "Stress Test" by Tim Geitner (an absolute top notch read). Watch old interviews from the time with executives and political figures of the era. It will bring back memories, give you goosebumps, and provide you with excellent 20/20 hindsight.

(1) Get a job and start a small business (print logos and designs on t-shirts and sell them. Everyone your age is doing it).

(2) Open up a high yield savings account, a brokerage account, and a cryptocurrency exchange account. Put 70% in savings account (use 20% of this to grow your business, don't touch the other 50%), put 25% in brokerage account (buy low volatility high dividend yielding stocks and ETFs), and 5% in crypto exchange account (buy Bitcoin).
