I've been thinking about how a decentralized betting platform could work. Just a simple one for starters like Twitch's chat bets as a proof of concept. For example, is a statement true or false? If you're right, you get the opposing betters' money proportional to how much you bet. When I say money, I mean an erc20 token.

I was thinking you could have "bet validators" that manually decide the outcome of bets and are rewarded a small portion of the bet's payout for their labor. You'd have to lock a stake from these validators greater than the reward that's paid out on the outcome they pick. So if he picks the wrong outcome, on purpose or not, there could be a dispute opened on this bet outcome, and if it's proven valid, the people who wrongfully lost could be reimbursed their amounts from the validator's stake. Removing winnings from the wrongful winners as well would be ideal too I think, but too difficult in practice (Not really an issue anyways I think?).

This creates the question I'm currently a little stumped on: How does the network prove a dispute is valid and should pay out reimbursements? The losers of a bet would always want to dispute it and get their money back for free if it's just an open, wouldn't they? The only solution I can think of is that the owner of the protocol controls 51% of the supply to always be able to overrule any dispute decision, but this is kinda shitty, centralized and creates an unscalable workload for the owner.. Any better ways?

I want to write a solidity contract and a frontend for this, but I don't know how to solve this problem.
