Do you have any idea how much more expensive a brick wall is than a steel shell over a first floor of cinderblock? Its an order of magnitude. Undoubtedly, brick is more beautiful than corrugated metal sheeting (and stone masonry is more beautiful than brick), but unless you want to pay other people to make industrial spaces pretty, stop whining.

Elevators didn't just obsolete loading doors as seen in your picture. They also meant people were no longer constrained to a 4 floor max height (since that's what most people are willing to deal with if they have to take stairs). And while Paris and Charleston SC are beautiful for maintaining that old height limit, it has severely curtailed the commercial development of their cores and shot RE prices through the roof even compared to other urban cores. Do I like that everyone builds uncreative monoliths of glass and girders when they build high? Of course not. But I also recognize that beauty isn't cheap, and you had better pony up if you want to see more of it.
