So even if there's nothing particularly disagreeable in this thread, being away from this board even for a short time gives one enough perspective to realize what a bunch of worthless, whiney, demoralization tranny losers every single poster on here is, kind of eye opening really

>Need $1000 cash, in a wealthy white suburb, half million dollar houses, everyone's in a $70,000 soccer mom wagon
>try to use ATM
>not only does checking account have a $1000 cash withdrawal limit, the ATM only allows for a $400 withdrawal per use and only $20 bills
>have to sit at the atm pulling out wads of 20s multiple times as people begin to stare
>end up with a fat drug dealer roll of cash walking out the pharmacy as the cashier straight up refuses to make change for $100 bills
finding a place that was actually willing to trade 50 $20 bills for 10 $100 bills took even longer, as no one had any fucking $100 bills

even in a place full of supposedly wealthy people, the infrastructure isn't even set up to have one thousand dollars in one place, it really is true that the vast majority of Americans simply wouldn't be able to afford the smallest of emergencies, and all of this proves to me that it's all very much deliberate

I still don't understand. What is "trying"?
What standard is it that you are supposed to adhere to?

What does it even mean, "to have something to show for it"?
What is it you expect to have to show? You sound like a preschooler fretting that you have nothing to bring to show and tell.

Alright /biz/ usually when a thread about housing comes around it's about when the right time to move out of mom's basement is. Well I'm turning 25 in a month and my parents are getting pretty annoyed so that day is today.
Not really, but I'd like to have a thread that's not about crypto.

So my premise is that the majority of the time one person does not come out ahead by owning a house as opposed to renting, after playing around with a bunch of calculators online. My location is in a metro area that's in-line with the average nationwide prices, and I believe this is the case for the vast majority of the US with the exception of the few hottest most inflated meme markets.

If you take a single person, who only needs one bed and one bathroom, it appears to be cheaper to simply rent that in an apartment complex indefinitely, rather than buying a full single detached home. Not only does it save on the numerous fees associated with buying and selling property, it also frees up money you would have spent on mortgage and down-payment to be invested into stuff that's had a much higher return throughout history.

You might respond that you can also rent out the rooms you don't need, meaning being a live-in landlord. Apart from that setup meaning you have to actually be a landlord and deal with tenants, making a profit is not necessarily guaranteed, and you could just as easily move into an apartment with roommates to offset the cost of rent.

The other savings from ownership comes in the form of government subsidy (this incentive turns out to be critical in driving home sales) with the mortgage interest deduction. What I don't get about this is that in order to exceed the $6300 standard deduction at the current rates, you'd have to pay something like over $160k a year? Sure enough, there are tons of articles claiming the deduction benefits mainly the wealthiest who actually do pay that much on a mortgage.

So /biz/? Should I just rent forever?

So I have a job that pays in the high five figures.

I'm only a couple years in but I don't see why I'm supposed to try and seek higher positions and responsibilities. Basically I see no reason to:
>fit in
>kiss ass
>go beyond what's expected
>be social, go to the dumb corporate social events
>muh come in early stay late meme
>muh always be learning meme
>aggressively chase base salary when all I'm going to end up with is more responsibilities and work
>care about being respected, etc.

It seems like I could basically sit on this job all the way until the next crash causes mass lay-offs and save myself a lot of stress and compromises on my life. This is nearly an entry level position but I don't see why anyone would need more than this unless they had mouths to feed...

Wait a second.
You have until April 15 of the new year to contribute to a traditional IRA for the previous year.
But you can contribute for the new year as early as the first of January??

So you make a contribution on the first of $5500 for 2016
But then you can make a contribution of $5500 in April for 2015??

How does that work on your deductions? Do you just file for $5500 for 2015 and then $5500 for 2016?

My doctor seems to be advising me to do a bunch of very expensive procedures (I will not say what specifically, but each has a pricetag in the thousands). To me, it feels like he has the attitude of a used car salesman. He comes across as a douche, like every other doctor I've ever had. I don't trust doctors/dentists and I never will, so I think my view is too jaded to make a clear call. My insurance will cover all of this, which is exactly what I think he's going for; a fat paycheck for some really overpriced stuff. What do you guys think? Is he taking me for a chump? What do I do about it? It's not like I can accuse him of anything.
