Greece had lower debt to GDP and higher tax revenue to GDP in 2009 than we do now. This is what their bond market did even though their fundamentals were better than ours and they also had the EU to bail them out. There is nobody to bail out the US government.

Greece's economic fundamentals in 2009 were better than ours are now, right before their bond market did this. Their stock market crashed 95 and never recovered, and they reverted to developing country status. That was AFTER the EU bailed them out, averting a crisis that would have been even worse.
