Your staked crypto, can you lose it? Is there a chance for it to just disappear or what?

Or does it always return? With the only risk being the volitility of the crypto?

It's been awhile since i was on binance and it's kinda hard to navigate.

But I recall awhile back there was like options to stake and two sections where binance said they insured one or something like that or it was "protected"

Why would it have to be "protected" if there was no chance of loss?
