In case you haven't noticed, very large players have entered the oracle competition lately and are slowly but surely making a small dent into CL's monopoly. CL's monopoly is very hard to disrupt because it would require serious capital to catch up with their warchest, and the only reason very well capitalized entities would bother to compete is if they saw real long-term incentive to do so. CL has the first mover advantage but these players have very real capital, connections and very long term goals, they're arguably the main protagonist in crypto currently and they've decided to aggressively pursue this infrastructure segment for their own long-term interests because they very much understand these implications and can play the game like a marathon rather than a sprint, they just don't broadcast it loudly yet but the various big picture moves they've been making have been fairly obvious if you follow the space closely. I'm talking about HFTs and MMs, who are echelons above the VCs CL had to contend with until now. CL has moral high ground but capital is power.

This is unfolding fairly stealthily and has barely trickled down to retail discourse surrounding oracles yet, even here on biz which is supposedly ground zero for these conversations. I don't wanna elaborate more because it's not a convo biz is ready for yet. People here pay attention to shit only if there's a token attached.

In any case, in time and at scale, there will be an understanding that the end-goal of oracles for HFTs and MMs is OEV and front-running and CL is an obstacle they have no control over and they are free to employ the dirtiest tricks in the book to further their landgrab from the shadows. CL flipping the monetization switch and how participants react to this should make positions clearer. It's becoming PvP, which is the strongest indicator you need that there's real value to extract here.
