That's wrong. Spot is set against the dollar and physical is king. Paper gold was (mostly) fraud. Thus you can expect large movements to be mostly silent. Moreover, in losing value, it's still hinged on the dollar so in exchange you're still getting a good approximation of the USD value held. This relationship decouples over the long term when yields are considered secure.

Notice Sept. of '19, the purple box. Security was perceived to be slipping all of 2019, Sept. is when it really took off and debt started visibly collapsing. [Smart] People started into gold?
