03:44 PM EDT, 04/20/2020 (MT Newswires) -- JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM), Wells Fargo (WFC), Bank of America (BAC) and US Bancorp (USB) have been sued by small businesses for allegedly prioritizing large loans under the government's COVID-19 rescue package instead of catering to borrowers on a first-come, first-served basis, Bloomberg News reported Monday, citing lawsuits filed Sunday in federal court in Los Angeles.
The Paycheck Protection Program, guaranteed by Small Business Administration, entitles small businesses to retain workers on the payroll during the COVID-19 crisis.
The lawsuit claims that the four banks first processed the larger loans, with loan applications for $150,000 and less processed at twice the rate of larger loans in the last three days of processing loans before funding ran out on Thursday.
