The consensus mechanism is a flat upgrade to Nakamoto and it's ability to handle over 1 million concurrent validators allows for novel changes to the multichain infrastructure that chains like Cosmos and ETH will never be able to do(until they switch to Avalanche consensus) So altogether it's currently the most powerful consensus protocol running the most promising style of architecture(multichain). It's basically what Ethereum dreams of becoming 5 years from now.
