Earnings beat expectations. If earnings are released after closing bell, the stock will jump during after hours trading. This typically leads to a gap up open the following day. How to play? It's a coin flip. Sometimes companies beat earnings but the stock drops the day after, sometimes because they included worse guidance than expected or something, sometimes just because the stock is bearish or the stock is waaaaaay the fuck overbought and everybody stampedes out at the beginning of the day. Conversely, sometimes stocks totally miss earnings but pump anyways.

During my trades, I hold through earnings maybe 20% of the time and only if the stock is bullish, but not parabolic, and highly likely to beat due to their past performance and the current healthy state of the sector it's a part of.
