i got a quotation on alibaba from a trading company that claims to have stock (i suspect they don't have any stock at all and just go to the market and pay the retail price and ship them to you). for $150 the best they could offer was 40 keychains. on aliexpress if you pay the same unit price as any customer who buys just 1 or a few you would get 60 keychains for $150.

and no i won't spend thousands on some factory that claims to make them cheaper but has a large minimum order quantity because it's highly unlikely that people in my country would buy enough of them for me to recoup my costs.

ok faggots how can you actually run an online store while keeping a competitive edge by spending your money efficiently

i have found some niche items that i get from a solid chinese supplier but i wouldn't expect to long term average more than about 1-2 sales a day at about 10 dollars a sale

so i want to expand and find more SKUs

but for example on aliexpress they target end costumers and most categories of items don't have meaningful wholesale discounts. on alibaba you get middlemen who try to fleece you and factories that don't keep inventory so you have to pay a high price for a production run and then they will probably betray you by producing extra units that will end up on aliexpress for half the price.

like there are so many pleb/hobbyist-tier online stores that are probably paying a bit more than they should for their inventory and charging a high price (but the high price is necessary to get enough profit to compensate for the low number of sales). i want to btfo them but it's a struggle to find and source profitable SKUs

how do you set up an online store without getting raped on fees?

>shopify
>$29 monthly fee, fine i guess
>+2.9% + $.30 per transaction credit card fee
>+2.0% per transaction for not using shopify payments (not available in my country)
>+3.4% + $.30 per transaction paypal fee
what the actual shit?

btw i need to sell to normies so most of your coin memes are out of the question
