My working theory is that the human brain is a lot more powerful than we typically suspect. We're talking about a decision making mechanism that has had millions of years of evolution behind it. (Did you know actually that you might have some of your ancestors more traumatic memories stored in the base of your spine?) But a lot of this mechanism is done under the hood and it's happening unconsciously. Things like the tarot, the I-Ching, Ouija boards, etc. allow us to explore these more subtle thought processes in a structured manner, converting unconscious thought into conscious thought. At least this is.my theory.
