The Friday before Washington mutual failed and was bought by jpm. They told everyone they were safe and liquid, Sunday night they announce jpm has merged (bought) them… tomorrow is gonna be fun. Does congress bail them out? If no a larger bank has to buy them. Svb is in this because of shit timed short term treasury bonds that don’t equal deposits. Because of 08 I am reluctant to think congress will be willing to bail them out but it is most likely. Second option is a merger into a larger bank like jpm or Morgan or gs BUT BUT BUT those institutions literally have the exact same deposit rate AND shit yield short term treasuries + interest rate hikes, make a merger of this size seem like an absolute net loss except controlling the contagion.
