Seconding this; I switched to vaping for about 8 months then quit altogether. You need to get a setup where you can wean the nicotine down. I cut the nic in half every couple of months until I was cutting the lowest nic stuff with 0-nic vape juice. At that point it was basically just a mental thing.
After a year of no smoking/vaping, I felt like i had regained my self-control. (I also quit caffeine during this time and switched to a low-carb diet, I think these two things helped improve my self-control a lot in addition to quitting smoking). Now I just have an occasional cig when I'm out with friends/partying/feeling introspective etc. This is the best way to do it, and you get a nice buzz every time, and you don't have all the drawbacks of smoking every day and feeling like shit. Which brings me to another benefit of quitting -- I never realized when I was smoking how much it was fucking up my sleep. I sleep so much better and feel so much more rested every day after quitting nicotine and caff.
But you have to be aware of what your own self-control levels are. Some people probably can't go back to occasional smoking.
Anyway, best of luck OP.
