Finance student at UVA and I'm completely flabbergasted by the level of incompetency in the field of finance. I have to take a fucking class on how to use excel spreadsheets and inputting formulas to determine bullshit like whether a company can afford long term to pay the dividend rates its paying, converting r&d expenses into future expected revenue, etc.

If fundamental analysis is so good and its what financial analysts use then why don't they just create a basic script out of python to do their excel formulas for every single stock on the market within a fraction of a second and then it automatically sorts the best ones, instead of working 80-100 hours a week doing it manually themselves? Are they too ignorant to learn a scripting language and how to web scrape for variables?

Why is excel even a requirement these days?
