They listed every asset they had for sale. Every. Single. One. Pic related (from Kroll), notice how it states that all assets were to be listed for sale and that auctions took place for both all assets sans Baby and for all of Baby's assets (so for everything). Some leases were too shitty for anyone to buy at the asking price. If every single lease was sold for what the company was asking for it, they would still be billions short of covering the liabilities (necessary for shareholders to see a cent). If your investment thesis is that Cohen is going to overpay by billions for these leases, then you have three important questions to answer. One: why would he not just buy them now, since they are already on sale (at a low enough price that the shareholders are still fucked) rather than waiting and gifting the company billions of dollars for no reason? Two: If the evil hedgies are aware of a plan to blow them up through a dead towel company, why would they not just buy the leases now for the asking price, cementing the companies death? Three: If Cohen wants these leases, and literally anyone else can step in to buy them now, why is he risking letting someone else pick them up rather than having bought them already? If you don't have a rational answer to these questions, then it's only logical to conclude that the company will ultimately get less than what they're asking for for the leases (which makes no difference to shareholders, as they're fucked either way) and that it would be more rational for Cohen to invest his billions into dogshit than to overpay by billions for whatever empty towel stores were too shitty for anyone to want.
