NGL I hate zinc pennies. If you look at a freshly minted zinc cent under high magnification you will see that the copper plating is all crackled and broken, showing exposed chemically reactive zinc everywhere. In anything but the most neutral environments they start degrading immediately. Pic are some of the ate-up zincs I've come across metal detecting and treasure hunting, nasty eh? I'm convinced that in 2000 years archaeologists will insist that pennies ceased being minted in 1982.
