You might have sucked at math before, but that doesn't mean you'd suck from this point on. Maybe you just had a shitty teacher, maybe you missed one lesson and everything just fell apart from there (that's how math usually is).

I won most of the local maths competitions when I was a child, and Bulgaria was top 10 in maths back then. 10 years later in uni, I failed 10 maths exams. Didn't find it interesting anymore and it didn't prevent me from becoming a good dev (I was good at discrete maths and statistics, those matter. But I failed calculus 1 5 times and calculus 2 3 times).
