you're better off re-reading the 48 laws of Power and understanding that sometimes engaging directly will entangle you in wars that never needed to be fought, Brian. You're better off taking a long, hard look at your priorities and understanding that becoming a destroyer is the same as operating on the wavelengths of those you wish to destroy-- that you will inevitably take on some of the qualities of the destroyer.

You must beware this. It is better to be useful, or, if the psychopath is sufficiently powerful, indispensible. Create an island of irreplacability-- study the path of long-lived servants who rise. IT people seem to do this, as do some folks in sectors of accounting or finance-- their job is too boring and at the same time inscrutable, and they are never truly regarded as a threat. If you wish to swim with the sharks, you will have to destroy, however.

The best way to destroy is to let them destroy themselves, through armoring yourself with both obscurity and distance. The battles and insanity common to such types as your targets will always lead to entanglements with other psychopaths, and thus eventually to their downfall. If you cannot armor yourself with distance, re-read The Art of Worldly Wisdom, and know that you must put the proper face on when you meet them, and know how to never outshine them in ways that they know, and instead to labor in the shadows. Seek your independence.

If you must engage them directly, know that most psychopaths break the rules and therefore the law, at least in some ways. Most compromise their own personal lives in certain ways which would be embarrassing. Find a way to discover these secrets. Hire a PI if you have the resources. Find your target's habits. Get someone close to the target. Record everything. If you had perfect knowledge of everything your target did for even a single day, you'd have enough to hang them, most likely. Rare is the psychopath who does not overreach.

manipulation is like seduction: it requires consent on the part of the manipulated. If you find yourself seduced but never actually winning, you are being manipulated. If you look carefully, you can see the signs: we become pulled into our own addiction to whatever cycle or codependency our manipulator feeds, and it manifests itself by rationalization to continue the cycle.
But when we look at the actions and outcomes of the actions of the person in question, the veil is lifted: it is someone who does not respect our boundaries, and who never did.
