Yeah generally speaking, if the arid regions don't have much salt or chemical activity in the soil then not much of the copper will have been converted to the green carbonate or other salts and they'll often have a nice brown to nearly black patina and smooth surfaces which make them a pleasure to clean. I believe some ancient coppers and bronzes could even be found with some mint luster left. I have some ancient Scythian arrowheads from the 4th century BC that must have been found in a dry cave because besides a few spots of corrosion they still displayed much of the original fresh shiny yellow color, and they even had remains of the ancient wood arrow shafts in their sockets!

My fren, I would absolutely love meeting and then going on treasure-hunting adventures with you, and would show you special low-tech techniques for finding good stuff which most detectorists or artifact-hunters don't know about. If your back is hurting and you're not up to more strenuous types of hunting there are some very leisurely and relaxing approaches too.
