You could forbid people from trading with your rivals, but honestly we'd eventually end up with a foreign exchange rate pretty quick. The biggest issue to me would be trust though. China is probably the least trustworthy nation on earth to let run your currency system, and I say that as a citizen of the country that refuses audits of Ft. Knox. Anyone setting up a PM backed system again would need to have outstanding optics and a buy in. Constant audits of national and bank PM vaults, checking to see if the bullion was real by independent labs, and (the one China would never agree to) a guarantee of non-fuckery. If you're going to have blockchain money for the general population, the fact is you're not going to be anonymous in the sense that your bank teller knows who you are. But randomly having your account zeroed because you post winnie the pooh memes is not going to make foreign investors trust your new money, even if it is literal digital gold.

How would you run the economy if you had your way? How would you get there from here?

Hard mode: a semi-realistic implementation, even if it's not plausible, and not just "all the poor people crawl in a hole and die"
