But in reality, he succeeded. Ponzi schemes work by robbing one investor to pay a previous one. All ponzi operators "plan" to turn their businesses into "real ones" and never successfully manage to, so they just string investors along until they're caught.

He actually did though lol. After stringing along like 4-5 people and robbing one to pay the other, he hit the jackpot with a medical company and was able to make massive profits for everyone.

It's actually ridiculous that he might go to jail for committing what might be the first big money ponzi scheme that ends well
