>what do you think are the best shops to go to for silver?

Usually goodwills suck, I'm lucky because mine doesn't screen the good stuff to sell online like most of them do. Usually small independent or church associated thrift stores are better than chain stores, but every store is different and you won't know until you get a good feel for the shops around you. I've done well at antique malls too but usually they know what they got and price accordingly. The ABSOLUTE BEST place to look for cheapies is at IRL 2 or 3-day estate sales (or estate auctions), where they put price tags on everything and then you get to walk around a dead boomoid's house rummaging through and slurping the cream of their worldly possessions. I bought all this sterling in pic at one sale last summer for what worked out to about $2.12/ozt asw, got some really nice antiques, books and artifacts too. You want to monitor www.estatesales.net for upcoming IRL estate sales in your general area, then if you see a promising one you want to show up before opening the 1st day. Usually they have a sheet of paper with numbered boxes where you can write your name and reserve your spot in line, or they put out a sheet with numbered slips you can tear off, then at opening time they call names or numbers and the customers enter in that order.

Yeah it's a fun hobby, you should also check www.estatesales.net for estates being liquidated in your area, many are online auction format which are gay but plenty of old-fashioned tag sales are still conducted down there, there was one running from the 1st-3rd of a deceased literal Jew in a suburb of Denver, there was a whole China cabinet full of .800 and sterling silver probably 10kgs worth, not sure about prices I couldn't make it to check. Being an early bird at a good estate sale can earn you one or multiple kilo bars at once, i like them far more than thrift stores and garage/yard sales. Definitely keep an eye on that website and good luck fren.

>Do you have an estimate for the man hours you put into scrapping?

2-8 hours per week, which includes browsing online, breakdown of scrap, and checking out thrift shops and estate sales when they occur which is where the ~8 hour weeks come from. I collect and resell general antiques collectibles tools/gadgets and old books too so I'm rarely left empty-handed having wasted the time. I enjoy novelty and seeing/learning about new (old) things so it's an extremely satisfying hobby. If you're not in Florida where retired boomer sale sharks abound you should check out www.estatesales.net for estates getting liquidated in your area, I got 2 kilos of silver at the last sale I went to for $133, $35 of gold scrap for $20, plus 20+lbs of petrified wood, a grooved stone Indian war hammer, and some great old books tools and valuable pocket knives I got for $5 and flipped for $200. It's not for everyone but if you have a good eye and the right mental wiring I highly recommend trying it out. By stacking cheapies you never have to stress out over spot price dumping or shills fudding, it's very very comfy.

>Will update with totals and calculations

Alright got it all weighed and calculated. I spent $133 total for 1,798g of solid sterling, approximately 212g of sterling in the handles of the 11 knives and servers on the table, and 71g of mixed .800, .850, .875, and .900 that I'll just calculate as all .800.

That comes out to 1,916 grams or 61.6 OZT of pure silver, worth $1,364.49 melt at $22.15 spot, at a cost of $2.16 per ounce being less than 1/10th the paper price. I fucking love scrapping bros WAGMI.
