The stock market is built on growth. This growth comes from population growth. People invest in stocks, because it has always been inevitable that due to population growth, stocks will always go up. Companies with high growth have a premium added to their stock price, because investors like to use next years earnings to pay off the costs of owning the stock.

But if that growth is taken away, then people will no longer invest, because it is unlikely that the stock will go up over time. The growth premium is stripped away. Stocks would be repriced at 7x eps.

Now look at a scenario where the population is falling. Future eps will always be less. The odds of a stock price being higher next year are zero. Who would invest? Only idiots. Stocks will be repriced at 4x eps.

In China the population is going down. Within months, the population in your country will be going down. Your stocks will be drastically repriced, very quickly. This will make 1987 look like a picnic.
