there is no free sulfur, only sulfate (SO4^2-) ions. the internets seem to agree with me on this. perhaps silver sulfate can formed but it seems one needs to go via silver nitrate for that to happen. either way the acid should attack any base metals before the silver, so you can still use it for winnowing

you can get NaNO3 in most grocery stores, at least here in Sweden. KNO3 can be had from places like pyrogarage, or you can produce it via metathesis with KCl which can also be had easily
