If Bitcoin never existed, we'd probably be seeing a much bigger push towards a cashless society right now.
A lot of the establishment economists and wealthy titans who publicly speak out against Bitcoin and crypto generally adore the idea of a purely digitized financial system.
In one sentence, they'll decry Bitcoin because it can be used for illicit activity. In the next, they'll say that monitoring the financial activity of every individual is a good thing because the Fed will have more accurate data to work off of.
Who are they fooling?
Fortunately, Bitcoin beat them to digital finance. The way it's acted as a wrench in the works is very understated.
Any attempt at a FEDcoin looks like a joke stacked up to Bitcoin's underlying economic principles.
They don't like that, but they have to cope for once. Every time they intervene, they're giving the coins they can't control free publicity.
Every time they crack down, they stir more skepticism against themselves.

Hell, look at China. They can manipulate all these large powers to do their bidding and rule with an iron fist. Even so, they've tried to ban Bitcoin at least 5 times and it never works.
