>Mixers aren't hard to use and I don't need to make that many private transactions anyway

1. Mixers aren't reliable, its why they're disappearing off the darknet.
2. Mixing leaves you vulnerable to receiving tainted coins, which in turn leaves you vulnerable to coin seizure.

>I just don't see any really compelling reason to hold it long term

Monero is fungible, Bitcoin isn't and its fungibility woes are set to worsen over time. That right there is reason enough.

>I can just get some as I need some.

Yeah? And how will you do that if XMR is universally delisted for being too damn effective?

Oh, you'll just use atomic swaps? OK then, as the counterparty I'll require a fat 25% premium for assuming the risk of having your potentially tainted coins dumped on me. And that's if I'm even willing to take the risk.

>When I need the privacy I can use XMR for the instant I need it.

Are you willing to pay a fat premium every time you want to acquire XMR? Are you willing to risk having all your swap offers rejected leaving you without access to the XMR ecosystem?

Because I can tell you right now: as soon as XMR <-> LTC atomic swaps are a thing me and most other MoneroChads will prioritize them over XMR <-> BTC atomic swaps for the simple fact that we're much less likely to end up with tainted coins that way.

TL;DR: using BTC will increasingly become an onerous, loss-generating ordeal, which makes holding XMR the wiser, safer, more future-proof choice.

Welcome to the Monero General, dedicated to the discussion of the world's leading decentralized P2P privacy cryptocurrency!

Monero is secure, low-fee, and fungible, meaning users can send XMR around the globe despite corrupt governments or broken financial systems. Innovative privacy features such as Ring Signatures, Stealth Addresses, and Ring CT ensure that Monero's blockchain is obfuscated -- In other words, the financial history of all Monero users is encrypted from the prying eyes of adversaries on a public blockchain, with transactions being visible only by a user willingly providing a view key.

Monero has also improved upon the scaling downsides of current popular cryptos. To avoid high fees, dynamic block size ensures that the size of the blocks will increase as the amount of transactions increases. Further, the mining network algorithm RandomX establishes that anybody with a CPU can participate in mining, preventing the ASIC miner domination that creates a high barrier of entry. Lastly, the mining network will be preserved by Tail Emission -- instead of the block reward falling to zero like with Bitcoin, the block reward will gradually approach 0.6 XMR in June 2022, where it will forever stay. This constant linear inflation means the inflation rate will asymptotically go to zero while continuing to provide an incentive to miners to maintain the network.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask and a MoneroChad will be with you shortly.
