when you rent an apartment you'll have to pay the landlord a bond of say $1000. when you moved out and there's been no damage then you'll get you money back.
so when a node operator is providing a data they will put up a similar type of bond in the LINK token. if they behave they get the money back.
while a job on the network is ongoing, the bond/security deposit is held just like with the apartment
therefore, if node operators want to do more jobs, or jobs with a higher value then they will need more LINK.
this is how LINK hodlers will make money. by lending their LINK to node operators so they can do more and higher value jobs
