OMG is a childchain with ETH's consensus, while xDai is a sidechain, PoA consensus. There are many good sidechains (xDai, Optimistic, Loopring, etc..) and each sidechain has it's own consensus mechanism that you must trust! ...but there's only one good trustless childchain, and that's OMG.
