They could announce a ban of foreign investors and essentially collect their money. No court can stop them, no people rise up, no country do anything about it.

The only reason they do not is because Xi thinks it is not beneficial. And nobody knows what he will think in 5 years or what his successor will think in 10.

No argument can pierce this logic. You may say "Well, it would not pay off right now." or "China is profiting from US money." and I would agree. But the point still stands and Xi or his successor can change their opinion based on infos or simple emotions we don't know anything about.
Investing in China is like basing your wealth on the hope that this time a socialist dictatorship won't fail in some way. Which sounds like Emma from African studies at your local university.
