CVICU charge RN here... Beyond the overwhelming amounts of lardasses we have; it's a culture issue that stems from narcissism. Everyone is so important that they cant imagine ever being subject to a medical emergency. Americans have this obsession with life - regardless of how shit the quality. For example, I just spent the last few shifts overseeing care for an 87 year old patient that finally died after 50 days in the CVICU following complications from open heart surgery. Everyone and their mother knew she was deadmeat after she was reintubated on day 7 of her postop recovery. Family didnt give a fuck though and dragged her rotting corpse through hell for 40 more days. This shit happens more often than you think and its a massive financial drain.
