>how do you actually engrave the metal? do you have a tool for that?
You can get an electric engraver online or in a hardware store for cheap. Get one with a carbide tip and you can engrave steel as easily as writing something with a pencil.

>can anon explain what "trustlessly buy into system" means?
Not him, but one of the big problems with PoS is that it inherently has permissioned onboarding, meaning the one and only way to get coins and have value in the network is to have someone else sell you their coins. You can't get coins through staking if you don't have coins to begin with. With a permissioned system it becomes easier to blacklist people from the network, and as most available coins tend to be held on exchanges regulated by the state, it acts as an attack surface for blocking out political dissidents, cancelled people, etc. which is antithetical to providing people a currency system outside of state and bank control.

This stands in contrast to a proof-of-work system, as the only thing you need to onboard yourself to the network is a computer capable of running a hashing algorithm (i.e. basically anything with a CPU above the power of a toaster). You do not need to play "mother may I" with people, beg an exchange to allow you to open an account, convince another coin holder that you're not guilty of wrongthink, etc. You can onboard yourself, you are not dependent on external exchanges for acquiring coins and having value in the network unlike in a PoS system.
