We are still, after several bull runs having "wars" between L1s competing to be the new ETH. All, by the public conceived as sophisticated investors, are completely convinced that this is where value will be captured (and not in actuality be driven to 0 by competition), and the determining factor will be which ponzi inflationary staking mechanism is the best. Virtually nobody is trying to build products that integrate with value securing systems in the real world, products that fundamentally change how the world operates and improve financial relations between people. As an industry, more effort has been devoted to creating NFT collections in a year than has gone into leveraging existing web2 systems since the conception of blockchain.
In 2019/2020 there prize rewards and participants in hackathons were an order of magnitude smaller yet a larger number of original works and sophisticated ideas were conceived in this period than in all of 2021/2022.
While the normies are still playing with blockchain lego there exists a smorgasbord of existing web2 apis and value securing systems just screaming to be utilized in this industry, yet NOBODY is doing it. Just think about the implications of open banking apis for initiating fiat payments being connected to smart contracts for a start.
This is the most bullish period in the history of blockchain if you are building a real project with clear value proposition and sound revenue metrics. Within a year, transaction costs will be driven close to zero, and cross chain communications will be taken for granted. None of this is priced in, and if you are able to position yourself for this reality by creating such a project and becoming world leading in your specific niche you stand to gain sovereignty enjoyed previously only by a select few.
