/biz/ anons, this is my first ever time coming to your board.

I am bored during coronavirus lockdown and I have intended to get some crypto for a long time, just for holding purposes in the hope that one day it'll appreciate. However, I am a total n00b who's never even acquired a financial instrument more complex than a student loan, so I don't even know where to begin, either in a practical sense (where do I actually go to buy "one etherium please shopkeep") or in a theoretical sense (is it wise to buy "one etherium please shopkeep" today)?

If there's a /biz/ n00b's FAQ quide or something, I'd appreciate it.
