How do I passive income? Everyone always says real estate, but renting out properties seems like a pain in the ass. Would investing in REITs be just as good?

2. How much should I save up to live comfortably in an ok area? (In long term, inheritance will probably be 500k-1m)

I've been looking to find ways to start and maintain online businesses to make some side income along with my full time job. The end goal is to live very comfortably.
