2000's western kids wanted to become managers, zoomers today want to become streamers. 2000's Chinese kids wanted to become Engineers, Scientists or Astronauts, and so do todays Chinese kids. In my Engineering classes there were maybe five Canadian kids out of 150 people, ten Eastern Europeans and the rest of the classes were evenly divided between Indians and Chinese.. Its a very different society with very different priorities. This is probably the last time when the West can challenge and attempt to subdue China.

I really don't want to live under the kind of surveillance and laws China deploys on its populace, but they're doing a lot of things right. The west resembles a 16th century Poland where a democratic assembly of nobles could be blocked by a single vote from any minor noble while China resembles the strong autocratic states (France, Sweden, Russia) that carved Poland up in the following centuries. The problem is espetially pronounced in Toronto where any boomer nimby can block construction of new infrastructure or housing indefinitely, causing societal rot and decay just so that they can be comfy for a few decades before they kick the curb. Here's an interesting gif of how many subways China built up. We built I believe, less than five new stations in Toronto meanwhile.
