It looks to me that the market has made its decision - it favors ethereum over BTC. One can imagine that ETH's increased utility will lead it to even more widespread utilization than BTC, and eventually a higher market cap than BTC ever saw. Individual coins might never be worth what BTC is though, because there is no hard cap on the supply of ETH. This adds to the longevity and utility of ETH. It's not deflationary, which is a boon towards its adoption.
