Fundamentals in any market only serve the purpose of creating a narrative for people to buy and sell.

However, these narratives are entirely manmade and fictional. STOP falling for the "muh fundamental" meme. The only thing that matters is whether there is enough current hype for people to want to buy and whether the hype is waning where people sell.

Now, although fundamentals only serve the purpose of creating a narrative, there is atleast a commonly established metric behind which to judge companies in the stock market (their earnings). Again though, this is not foolproof, and as we saw with the GME situation, although the fundamentals were horrible, there were simply too many people trying to short. Actual market short participants in a stock matter inducing buy volume matters more than any fundamentals.

Now, as for bitcoin, there isn't even a commonly established metric such as company earnings. There is simply put, nothing. So what matters? Literally nothing except hype. The reason bitcoin is going up is because institutions wanted to buy, wihich created a further wave of hype allowing retail investors to join in. If this hype starts to wane, the price will fall.

NONE OF THESE THINGS MATTER:
number of wallets
onchain activity
number of people using bitcoin as payments (again, virtually noone does this regularly)
Muh "stock to flow" model

serious question here, I'm still trying to understand some stuff
Why is >pic related still relevant, and why does it influence the market so much? I mean, it's awfully slow, the fees are expensive and it doesn't seem to have any real world benefits over lots of tokens out there, such as ETH.

So, why is it still the most popular crypto and why does it influence the market so much? And why does it keep increasing in value over time, except for the max total supply of 21 mil, which just makes it "rare"?

So if Cryptocurrency is just code, what stops a person from just faking it? What's stopping someone from just making a fake wallet and adding numbers to it, then coding it to be excepted as bitcoin? Or what about buying one of these low cost cryptos and coding it to be excepted as a more expensive one like Bitcoin or ETH? It can't be that hard, I'm sure it's as simple as changing some lines of code.
