What's the difference between wash trading and market making? If you wash traded using limit orders, aren't you just improving liquidity, narrowing the price spread on an exchange, and creating the optimal market for smaller traders? That's literally the definition of a market maker, as far I understand.

And you pretty much have to be doing wash trading with limit orders. if you wash traded using market orders, it's not actually a "wash" as you'd be losing vast amounts of money on slippage. People accuse exchanges of allowing wash trading in the tens or hundreds of millions of dollars, but if it were really some piss-ant no-volume exchange, these wash traders using market orders would just be wiping out the order book. Smart traders would catch on real quick, go onto these exchanges, and start selling their BTC there for $100,000,000 each, or something like that.

Isn't wash trading with limit orders just market making?
