Company relies on people applying for loans. Because of high interest rates and current recession there's no bull thesis for UPST.
It's ""technically"" a meme stock so there's tons of interest for it, it being highly shorted is the only reason this thing has had any run-ups, but it being off regSHO makes it an easy target for more shorting.
Predictions and fair value price range for the stock sits at $8, it's currently at $15.50 and just had a 40% run-up. It's going to go down (in my opinion), just a matter of when.
