I feel like the obvious issue with this is that when you gamble, you risk being worse off at the end of the day with less money than you started. At least with a job you are guaranteed to earn money.

There are professional poker players and poker, along with blackjack, are two of the better games to play in casinos as the house has some of the least edge in these games compared to most. It's possible to live off poker, but you'd better be really fucking good at it and even then you've gotta accept it's inevitable that some days you will walk away worse off than you started. If you absolutely need that $50 every day then it doesn't seem like a good idea without something to fall back on.
