why do people saying buying a home in a rural area is a good way to save money? the wages are much lower. you aren't actually saving more money.

I drove 50 miles outside my city to take a look at the 200k rural house I had my eye on.
The first thing that hit me was the roads looking tiny, you can't even drive fast on those shitty rural roads.
The second thing was the smell of shit, because farmers have been putting shit on their fields. How can I show my face to my investor in the city smelling like shit because I bought a rural house?
The third thing was mold and decay all around the house. The house should be worth 70k at best and 20k for the land underneath if you dismantle it. Who is the guy kidding listing a house that I need to spend 50k+ on to make it livable?

So I've decided that housing prices have fallen quite a bit but they could fall further so I will not buy a house in the suburbs or in a city.
I'm thinking about buying 200k house in a small town far away at a 1 hour drive away from the city. This will be the real estate equivalent of dollar cost averaging into housing. The land under the house is definitely worth about 120k.
I'll have to drive for at least 15 minutes to buy any groceries. There will be farmland all around.

Is becoming a rural retard a good financial decision?
