I've only listened to a few of his talks. Some of the interviews available are difficult to listen to because the "interviewer" is constantly interrupting him and he doesn't get a chance to follow through and layout the entirety of ideas and concepts.

but his system of study sort of makes sense. he takes in data of public discussion, comment, stories, etc. (available from modern communications via internet and digital media) and puts it all in a data base.
then he runs it through some sort of programmed matrix set to recognize, catalogue and apply statistical analysis to specific key words, phrases, etc.

the analysis yields a data set that basically gives insight into the topics, subject matter, dynamics, trends and so on, of peoples thought's, feelings, concerns, based upon what is being said or talked about in the informational feeds.

it sort of makes sense. i mean, in a way, its basically like eavesdropping on the conversationsof a group. if the group is unaware of the eavesdropping, then you might estimate that the things they discuss are honestly what they are experiencing or thinking about or planning to do

extrapolate this to all of society and whamo. there you go. there's alot more to it than that i'm sire. but its something like this
