Here's why the three gorges dam isn't going to break.
The flood gates release 61,000m^3 of water per second.
That's 0.2196km^3 per hour.
That's 5.27km^3 per day.
That means it can completely empty in under 8 days with 0 rain.
The problem comes from what is down stream getting flooded, that's why authorities have blasted dams downstream to release water and not let it pile up at future dams.
