Speaking as a person who has been in a real SHTF government collapsing type situation (albeit in a developing nation), I will tell you that the "peaceful" transition will be your experience for 99% of the scenario. Even if there are mobs of people going around setting fires and throwing homemade explosives at tanks, as long as you personally aren't getting into these situations, you're likely going to be fine.

Society exists the way it does for a reason: we gravitate to order. The truth is we, as a species, prefer to not spend the entire afternoon murdering each other for a loaf of bread. What you are most likely to see is that the bulk of the anger and energy will be directed toward whatever people perceive as the source of the problem (eg. probably not you, you're just some fucking guy). Meanwhile, on the "ground level" of day to day business---buying groceries, paying rent, going to school, visiting grandma---all of that will be fundamentally the same. Maybe 2-3% of the population will be acting like assholes, mostly directing violence at themselves, while "normal" people will be focusing on just maintaining a regular existence because that's their only frame of reference.

I watched a lot of windows get busted out in Kenosha, WI last night. What companies can I invest in that supply glass windows to private businesses and public buildings?
