Actual corporate rat here. 1/3 my time is trying to hand-hold people who don't report to me and coach them into doing work that I rely on. The worst are the boomers with all the head knowledge playing the not-my-job game. They are all making fat salaries are coasting to retirement with their pre 2008 pension plan in-tact.

The other 1/3 of my job is arguing with people on why my project is a high priority and trying to push through all the retarded paperwork to actually make things happen.

The last 1/3 is actual small-team creative, strategic type of work for a growth area. I actually have passion for my industry so it makes the 2/3 of shit worth it for the rewarding fun stuff.

But still it's soul crushing to know I'll get an inflation pay cut this year due to zero performance incentives while the execs bitch and moan to wall street about having to give us a 2% raise hurting earnings. Meanwhile the bosses gets 250mil + tip at the top and Boomer McGee has a 4million 401k and a pension in his back pocket with zero incentive to do anything other than the bare minimum.
