Cosmos is not like Ethereum because in Ethereum, ETH is the GAS and the "centralized" validator for the tokens. On Cosmos the hubs like Cosmos, Sentinel and IRIS are sovereign, hastheir own currencies and their own validators. So a hub doesn't need to "talk" to Cosmos, it can talk only to Sentinel, or someone can build a application on the Sentinel Hub. But the Cosmos, Sentinel and IRIS hubs can all talk to each other regardless of the other hubs/services. It's way better than Ethereum and has already fixed the scalability issues since it doesnt have one centralized chain but instead have hubs which can also have different zones to further increase scalability.

cosmos and tendermint solve the scalability problem using horizontal scaling every service can spawn a new blockchain very easily and all blockchains can be interconnected thanks to the interblockchain communication protocol (any blockchain with multisig can potentially connect).
cosmos has instant finality so you won't have to wait multiple confirmations this opens a much safer trading (dex) and transacting (cosmos has much higher txn(sec)
