Sure. Let's assume you want to resell a Big Mac to your friend, let's call him Jason Parser.
Long vs short is how long you hold onto the Big Mac, call and put are options for buying and reselling the Big Mac.

If you take a call option with McDonalds, you agree to buy the Big Mac at today's price (strike price) at a later time, because you think Jason will pay more later when he's hungrier. Tomorrow Jason is willing to pay double for the Big Mac. McDonalds already agreed to yesterday's price, even though they could make more by selling to Jason directly, so you close the deal and buy the Big Mac for cheap. This is a long position, because the assumption is that you may want to keep and stack as many Big Macs as possible instead of selling them immediately - Jason might be willing to pay even more later.

Conversely, if you take a put with Jason, you agree to sell him a Big Mac at today's price in the future, because you think the Big Mac will be cheaper once Trump makes McDonalds a branch of government. This is a short position, because you don't want to keep the depreciating value Big Macs, you're immediately reselling them to Jason at the strike price. Unfortunately, if it turns out Jason has dumped his entire LINK stack to buy up every burger in existence, and the price of one Big Mac is now worth $3,000,000. You're forced to buy the last Big Mac for Sergey - I mean Jason - even if you have to dump your BTC to pay for it. Many such cases!

This is a very good point and worth considering. I don't believe coins like TIA SEI INJ will necessarily suffer the same fate, though. LINK didn't have the benefit of market makers incentivized to keep it pumping (and while there will certainly be some sell pressure they won't have anything like sergey constantly dumping)
