Work on parents farm, I get $700/month + food and shelter. Pros; I don't have to commute anywhere and I can plan up the day somewhat as I want, it's extremely varied and interesting Cons; no days off, ever, during stressed out periods allnighters are typically needed, it's dirty and taxing as hell with monthly injuries for utter shit pay

Farmfag stopping by, can confirm it'll take a good deal of labor and many years until one will get successful with such a multitude of crops and vegetables. Animals will need daily attendance too, especially dairy cows, something like the cost of a vetrinary visit may very well equal a year supply of milk bought from the supermarket as well.

Mainly dairy cows, other cattle and swine, a few sheep. Some excess crops gets sold. Couple of excavators and other machinery to take jobs with or hire out at times. Some woods, so a bit of forestry work in the winters, hunting lease. I qualify for some subsidies, last year I think it was 55k, and ending up antagonized in the national newspapers here in a list titled "this years winners".
There's 6 houses on the property, got tenants in 3 of them currently so I end up doing a bit the same as you, haven't kept much track on it but in my case I suspect it's not a very profitable venture, just a measure of damage control kek. Do you have any interesting stories to share? I've been pretty lucky with all my tenants, except the first couple I had, somehow ended up as a messager between them when they split up, it was probably the most awkward experience I've ever had.
Those niched farms that sell their own produce can do really well, but as you say, it's indeed a huge initial investment, lots of labor and a risky market, even worse if one carries huge loans and many does indeed go bankrupt trying this so you're probably infinitely better off doing what you're currently doing, but I can see the idyllic sort of appeal.
